The Quest for Health Care A village that never had even the basic amenity of life today has an opportunity to address the health problem of the villagers by organising a health camp. The credit goes to the Parivartan Pariyojna, a scheme that that aims at rural development and women empowerment. Parivartan Pariyojna has taken an initiative for providing medical facilities to the people residing in the village where even the government had failed to provide any sort of medical relief. Shekhupur, a village in the district of Hamirpur in Uttar Pradesh with a population of 1978, had to face many difficulties in health sector. Due to the lack of primary health centre and failure of government health policies the villagers had to travel a long distance to Hamirpur district headquarter for any sort of medical treatment. But now due to the efforts made by the NGO the villagers feel relieved as they have the best medical facilities at their doorsteps. Parivartan Pariyojna organised a health camp, which was the first of its kind in the village Shekhupur on March 6, 2005 in collaboration with experts from district hospital of Hamirpur. The objective of health camp was to focus attention on health issues with a view to generating awareness regarding basic concepts of sanitation, hygiene, prevention of diseases and treatment of minor ailments at one's door steps in its area of operation and particularly the preventive aspects that are too often neglected. Dr AN Ram first did a basic diagnosis of the patients and provided them free medicines for three days. He told them about the precautionary measures to be taken to combat diseases and remain healthy. He suggested that basically cleanliness should be their first priority. The doctor examined 205 patients. The patients were suffering from Fever, Skin Disease, Stomachache, Joint Pain, Cataract, Asthma, ENT problems and Anemia. The villagers now feel a sense of security and stability as now they have access to medical aid on time. |
